The Green Room
Field Testing the Military Green Voyager from Stewart Dawson
The Allure of the “Fun Micro”
There is a specific joy in wearing a watch that doesn’t demand the “red carpet” treatment of a Daytona or the historical weight of a Submariner. In my collection, I categorize these as my “Fun Micros”—watches that prioritize character, storytelling, and a certain “get-up-and-go” energy. These are the daily wears. The watches that can take a beating and I won’t lose sleep over it.
Enter the Stewart Dawson Voyager (Ref. 1919.A.SS) in Military Green.
To be perfectly candid, this was my first watch from the Watch Gang Platinum Tier subscription.
Design & Dial
Stewart Dawson excels at blending British heritage with Italian flair, and the Voyager is the poster child for that marriage. The 1919 series draws inspiration from early 20th-century trench watches, but the “Military Green” dial brings it firmly into the modern day.
The Color: It’s a deep, mossy olive that shifts depending on the light. The matte finish absorbs the glare of sunlight, making those bold, luminescent Arabic numerals pop.
The Case: It feels substantial without being bulky—a necessary balance when you’re transitioning from a morning lifting session to a casual afternoon meeting. Its currently the heaviest watch I own coming in at 290.6 grams
Why It Works
It’s a “tool watch” in spirit, but it’s handsome enough to wear to a weekend brunch. It doesn’t try too hard, which is exactly why it has earned its spot alongside my more “serious” pieces. At a $239 price point, it’s a reminder that horological soul isn’t always tied to a five-figure MSRP. Direct this watch is listed at $650.00
